Art center manager – Job posting

Ngaruwanajirri is an Aboriginal non-profit organization based in Wurrumiyanga, an Aboriginal community on Bathurst Island. The community, which lies 80 km north of Darwin and is accessible by twice-daily air service and ferries to Darwin. It has a shop, social club, health clinic and primary and secondary schools and is surrounded by bushland and a short distance from a beach.

Founded in 1994 at ‘The Keeping Place’, Wurrumiyanga, Ngaruwanajirri is a Tiwi word meaning ‘to help each other’. The art center provides a supportive and safe space for artists with disabilities to come together and create their own individual and inspiring art, enabling them to participate in the same activities as other Tiwi artists. The art created includes natural ocher paintings on canvas and paper, batik on silk, lino prints on paper, and ironwood sculptures.

Ngaruwanajirri currently provides service for up to 15 artists. It is a well-respected indigenous art center that maintains relationships with commercial galleries and public institutions across Australia, runs a regular schedule of national exhibitions and is a finalist for this year’s Wynne Prize.

Ngaruwanajirri values ​​creativity, innovation and excellence and aims to professionally support Tiwi artists in establishing and developing their work.

In conjunction with the Executive Committee of Ngaruwanajirri Inc., the Director will be responsible for the efficient operation of the Art Center.

A two-bedroom house is provided free of charge and a car is available for limited private use.
