Today’s special proclamation was made at an art festival that Marquez hosted to showcase original paintings and artwork created by more than 150 children as part of the Mobile Art & Design Studio at the Club. “I was beyond honored to be proclaimed a hero by Dole simply for doing what I love to do: encouraging kids to be healthier and more creative,” Marquez said. “As all members of Boys and Girls Clubs of West San Gabriel Valley & Eastside can be considered heroes, I share this award with all of the staff, teachers, counselors and volunteers who remain dedicated to children every day. .”

“This recognition and support from Dole is even more crucial in this time of pandemic-era shutdowns, arts program closures and school budget cuts,” he said.

To commemorate Marquez, Dole partnered with the Club to inspire an art festival featuring student-created paintings of fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as many of the Marvel superheroes who inspired Dole’s independent living program. The produce leader interrupted the festival to present Marquez with a surprise Dole Healthy Heroes certificate and financial contribution after filling the Club’s refrigerators with fresh produce and packaged salads and salad kits.
