In recent years, the Lyme Art Association has renovated its exterior, celebrated the centennial of its construction, presented nationally acclaimed exhibitions of figurative art, and provided educational and enrichment opportunities as well as a community of artists and artists. art lovers at all levels.
Today, the association is experiencing a change of direction.
After 12 years, Laurie Pavlos will step down as CEO. Pavlos joined the Lyme Art Association staff in 2010 as business manager. She later led within the management team joined by gallery director Jocelyn Zallinger and director of development Gary Parrington before taking on the role of executive director in 2018.
Effective July 1, Elsbeth Dowd will succeed Pavlos as executive director.
“The Lyme Art Association is fortunate to have a highly qualified and capable successor to Laurie already on staff,” according to a statement from the arts association. “For the past two years, Elsbeth has served as Director of Development for the Lyme Art Association. When she joined the Association staff in early 2019, she wasted no time improving our communications, starting with social media, and working with Laurie to help our wider community familiar with our organization and mission and to continue to build relationships with community partners, sponsors, members and donors.
Before joining the Lyme Art Association, Dowd was executive director of the Oysterponds Historical Society in Orient, New York, and before that he was museum registrar at the Sam Noble Museum in Oklahoma. Dowd earned his bachelor’s degree in art and archeology from Princeton University and his doctorate in anthropology from the University of Oklahoma.
Other new faces at LAA Galleries include Lyme Academy of Fine Arts graduate Paul Michael, who took over as gallery director from retired Jocelyn Zallinger. Jolie Collins is the Association’s new communications director, and Sarah Kentoffio and Franceska Nebel help with the gallery and staff office.
