A large group of artists from the Mendocino County Art Association will be featured in the windows of the Corner Gallery throughout August.
This varied and eclectic show is worth the detour… “Especially, according to President Diana Steele, since most of the artists present will be present to welcome visitors and discuss their passion with interested parties. Each participating artist has been encouraged to present their best work, so this non-themed show will be a collection of individual treasures.
Kathleen Gordon-Burke, Vice President and Membership Chair, says with obvious pride, “The Mendocino County Art Association is the county’s oldest arts organization, established in 1954. Its purpose is to provide lectures, workshops, courses and art exhibitions for the benefit of both its members and the general public. Members get the first option to attend art workshops at a discounted rate and have the opportunity to show their art at local banks and galleries. In addition to being the oldest arts organization in the county, the MCAA is also the largest, with 77 current members.
With such a large number of members, the organization is able to showcase art in a multitude of compelling media. The 26 members participating in the August exhibition span the artistic spectrum of materials and techniques…including oil, watercolour, metal, quilted hangings, pastels, acrylic and paintings on paper. Featured artists include Svetlana Artemoff, Deborah Briggs, Jan Byland, Jeanette Carson, Jim Denham, Sara Falk, Cassie Gibson, Katie Gibbs, Kathleen Gordon-Burke, Lynn Gulyash, Carol Heady, Laurie Howard, Jeanne Koelle, Catherine Lair, Cindy Lindgren, James McKell, Mary Monroe, Cottie Morrison, Ginger O’Shea, Polly Palecek, Marie Pera, Valerie Peters, Elaine Richard, Carol Rosenberg, Kathleen Sewell, Diana Steele and Linda Talso. MCAA and Corner Gallery Fellow Jeanette Carson curated and curated the exhibit.
Membership in the MCAA costs $35 per year, a bargain by any standard. Members of the public are encouraged to call 707-391-8469 to join or receive more information about the benefits of membership.
The opening night of the MCAA exhibit will take place during the First Friday Art Walk on August 5 at the Corner Gallery, located at 201 S. State St. in Ukiah. The hours of the event are from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
