Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding art director wants to design a car

The Metal Gear series art director and character designer has revealed that he dreams of one day designing a car.

In an interview in the latest issue of Edge magazine, Yoji Shinkawa was asked if he had other career goals, given that he has enjoyed a level of success and recognition that many artists could only dream of. .

“One day I would like to design a car,” Shinkawa replied. “A real car.”

“It’s a long-standing ambition for me.”

Citing his main influence for this ambition, Shinkawa explained: “Aaron Beck is a concept artist who builds and customizes the cars he has designed.

“Looking at model cars or planes and thinking, ‘Isn’t that something you drive on?’ and then building one in real life is such a large-scale project. I admire that.

After joining Konami in the early 90s, Shinkawa was soon named art director for the console ports of Hideo Kojima’s graphic adventure Policenauts.

This marked the beginning of a long-standing professional relationship with Kojima, with Shinkawa serving as the art director for every game in the Metal Gear Solid series.

When Kojima severed ties with Konami and formed Kojima Productions, Shinkawa followed and also served as art director on Death Stranding.

Shinkawa said in March last year that he was working on Kojima Productions’ next project and he thought it would be announced soon.

“Well yes, I’m doing something for sure, and I could probably tell you that we can announce it very soon,” he told AI Hub.
