NEWBURYPORT — The Newburyport Art Association and its interest group, the New England Abstract Artists Group, present “Coming of Age,” an exhibition highlighting the works of 19 abstract artists.
This exhibition features the work of established and emerging artists: Muriel Angelil, Karen Battles, Pamela Bearor-Amiralian, Tarja Cockell, Rosalie Cuticchia, Donna DiGiovanni, Carin Doben, Susan Duane, Cheryl Dyment, Marcia Herson, Ethel Hills, Tricia Jones, Bonnie Lake, Barbara London, Madalene Axford Murphy, Sinikka Nogelo, Lisa Panaccione, Suzie Papin and Anika Savage.
Coming of Age is on view from July 27 to August 7, in its Sargent and Mini galleries on the first floor and in its Hartson gallery on the second floor.
An opening public reception with light refreshments is held on Saturday, July 30 from 5-7 p.m.
The show will be presented at the same time as “My favorite color ~ The ocean”.
All works are for sale. The gallery accessible to people with disabilities is free and open to the public Tuesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
A wide variety of artistic visions, all demonstrating a love of the abstract, are exhibited here, taking the viewer on a sensory journey. Many pieces are rooted in realistic inspiration, but rather than literally illustrating what is seen, they focus on the emotion, movement, line, shape, color and texture of their muse to create a window into the mind of the artist.
A flagship interest group of the NAA, the AAGNE began 21 years ago to support and promote abstract artists. The group has remained active lately by meeting remotely and in person. They continue to share ideas and resources and critique the work of other members.
