September 23, 2021 Club Digest: Sumter Art Association

The first meeting of the Sumter Art Association for the year 2021-22 was held on Tuesday September 21 at the parish hall of the Church of the Holy Comforter.

President Carla Young welcomed the 30 members present, with a special welcome to new member Virginia McFaddin. Young introduced his guest, Bonnie Disney, and gave her a warm welcome.

The President asked the members to reflect for a moment on the memory of the members of the association who died during the years 2019-20 and 2020-21. These ladies were Possie Atkinson, Mary Elizabeth Blanchard, Helen Bruner, Anna Bynum, Allene Compton, Annamarie Davis, Jackie Gamble, Margaret Hunter and Tillie Keer.

Ginger Jones gave an inspiring devotional meditation and offered a prayer. She will share chaplaincy duties with Josie Holler this year.

In a brief business meeting, Congresswoman Florida McKoy installed Linda Hogon as treasurer for the coming year.

Program Chair Debbie Thomas introduced afternoon speaker Karen Watson, Executive Director of the Sumter County Gallery of Art. Watson presented an interesting and informative program on the art of Norman Rockwell and the Rockwell exhibition currently at the gallery.

After the program, refreshments were served by the hostess committee chaired by Patti Sosnowski, with Bunni Russell as co-chair. Committee members were Kipper Ackerman, Jeanne Anne Baldwin, Kathi DuBose, Linda Fraley, Fran Kay, Troy Rogers, Sarah Tindal, Anne Walton and Jane Watson. Patti Sosnowski provided the eye-catching centerpiece for the table.
