Each month, local artists enter an Artist of the Month contest for the Weatherford Art Association. Competition takes place at monthly meetings held on the fourth Monday of the month at 6 p.m., 125 S. Waco St. in Weatherford. Artists show their work in oil, watercolour, pastel, mixed media, acrylic and other mediums.
The winners of the last meeting at the end of July were Marti Bailey with her first oil on canvas “Violet Waters”. This painting, along with other pieces of his work, can be found at the Doss Cultural & Heritage Center throughout the month.
Second place went once again to Vikki Linderman for her acrylic on canvas entitled “Day’s End”. Vikki’s work is on display at First Bank Texas in downtown Weatherford.
Longtime Parker County resident Kathy Cunning won third place with her acrylic “Reblooming Immortality.” You can see his work at Community Credit Union.
Weatherford Art Association hosts engaging demonstrations each month that impart techniques and skills to accomplished artists and those just starting out. In September, Patsy Walton will showcase her impressionistic and abstract style in floral painting. In October, Jack Harkins will also show how to paint with an impressionist style but recognizable objects. Joan Frost Prine, wife of late Western artist Doug Prine, is also an upcoming guest. She is a self-taught artist in her own right who creates beautiful works of the old west. Meetings start at 6 p.m. and end at 7:45 p.m.
The next show hosted by WAA is Spirit of the West which showcases Southwestern art. The deadline for submission of paintings is September. For more information on this show, visit meteofordart.com.
